When we think of the army, the first things that usually come to mind are discipline, toughness and resilience.
For Shelva, a retired army technician, those values aren’t just memories from the past; they continue to shape the person he is today.
The only difference is, he’s no longer in an army camp, but on the road, driving a 7-ft van with Lalamove.
Let’s dive into his inspiring story.
Even in secondary school, Shelva already knew his path.
One day, he came across an advertisement in the newspaper about an army school in Port Dickson. Without hesitation, he applied. After going through rounds of interviews, he was accepted when he was in Form 4.
That’s where it all began. His life revolved around tight schedules, physical training and strict discipline.
But the sweetest part? The friendships he built with peers from across Malaysia. Until today, they remain connected through the veterans’ association.
One of his most treasured memories was his peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.
“That’s something I find hard to forget. It’s truly a sweet memory,” he recalled.
After retiring in 2013, Shelva didn’t stop learning. He pursued a degree in business and later joined the retail industry.
But when the pandemic hit, the company he worked for had to shut down.
“At that time, I really lost my source of income. I had to think of ways to survive and support my family,” he said.
That’s when he started looking for new opportunities and found Lalamove.
In 2022, Shelva made a big decision: to use his savings to buy a 7-ft van dedicated to Lalamove deliveries.
The risk paid off. His income has since been steady and reliable.
“My income with Lalamove has been good and I can support my family,” he shared.
Although delivery work is flexible, Shelva believes discipline remains crucial. For him, punctuality and daily income targets are key to staying consistent.
“If you want to succeed, you must have discipline. No matter what kind of work you do,” he added.
But beyond just earning a living, he truly enjoys the job. Meeting appreciative customers and travelling across both cities and villages keep his days meaningful.
“This job isn’t boring. I enjoy going to so many different places,” he said with a smile.
From the training grounds of the army to the busy streets of Malaysia, one thing has remained constant in Shelva’s life: discipline.
The principles he developed as a soldier are now the very tools that help him succeed as a Lalamove driver, providing for his family with responsibility and pride.
If you, too, are searching for flexible yet reliable work, perhaps it’s time to follow in Shelva’s footsteps.
With Lalamove, you can build your own income while enjoying new experiences every day.
