The Malaysian Gig Workers Act 2025 (Act 872) is a new law introduced to provide clearer protection and recognition for individuals who earn income through gig work and platform-based services.
It formally recognises gig workers in law, sets out their key rights, and defines responsibilities for platforms and other contracting entities, with the aim of building a fairer and more secure gig economy.
The Ministry has indicated 31 March 2026 as the tentative effective date for the Act’s enforcement.
