“The hardest part is when my kids aren’t in front of me, so I always have to call them.”

That’s what Mohd Izwan bin Ab Manan shared about leaving his wife and children behind in Rantau Panjang, Kelantan.

Izwan made a big decision to move to Kuala Lumpur in search of better opportunities, all for the sake of his family.

This is the first part of his journey, one filled with sacrifice, love and determination.

“I had to move away, but that doesn’t mean I love them any less.”

Before relocating, Izwan worked as a lorry driver in Kelantan. But long-distance deliveries meant spending nights away from home, and time with his loved ones became rare.

“When I worked with companies, my time was paid and it’s limited. That’s why I didn’t have enough time with my family.”

Blessed with two beautiful children aged six and two years old, he admitted that it isn’t easy for him to explain why he’d have to move to Kuala Lumpur, especially to his first child. 

“They wouldn’t 100% understand our decisions, so I have to explain to them properly until they understand.”

When his wife wanted to give birth to their first child, Izwan was determined to find a replacement driver so he could accompany her in the labour room. 

“My kids are the greatest treasures in my life.”

“I’ll always be there for my family”

Though 400km away from home, Izwan now finds more meaningful moments with his family, thanks to his current full-time job as a Lalamove 4x4 Pickup driver.

This job allows him to video call them, no matter the time and place, especially when he takes a break between Lalamove orders. 

“Before my kids go to school, I’ll make sure to call them so that they know that I care.”

The longing is real, but so is his commitment as a father.

And when the opportunity arises, Izwan travels back to Kelantan. He avoids busy delivery days from Thursdays to Saturdays and uses Sundays to Mondays to spend precious nights at home.

“It’s every dad’s dream to give their best to his kids.”

When asked about his dream, Izwan said he wants nothing more than to raise his children well and give them a great education.

As a father, Izwan hopes his kids will understand the sacrifice that he has made for them.

“I moved to Kuala Lumpur not because I didn’t love them. I did it because I think about their future,” he added.
