Life can be full of setbacks, but how you rise again defines your journey.

Vincent Chan, affectionately known as Uncle Chan, faced one of the toughest challenges of his life this year, but he didn’t let it hold him back.

At 50, Uncle Chan is a father of three who once ran two successful businesses — a kindergarten and a tuition centre.

But when those businesses closed, he knew it wasn’t time to retire just yet.

Determined and resilient, Uncle Chan sought a new path that would not only support his family but also bring fulfilment to his life.

A Teacher At Heart

With his academic background in Business Administration from Universiti Malaya, Uncle Chan decided to venture into the education business with his wife.

Together, they spent over a decade nurturing young minds through their business.

They didn’t start the business for financial gain; they did it out of a love for teaching and a desire to be closer to their children.

“Before that, we were in corporate jobs, often coming home late and missing time with our kids,” he shares.

“Leaving the corporate world to start our own education business was a daring move, but it allowed us to be there for our children.”

Running the business was initially challenging, with obstacles like finding new students and managing facilities.

But as time went on, they found their rhythm.

The joy of seeing their students grow and succeed became their greatest reward.

“When you see the students’ growth, it’s an indescribable feeling that every teacher cherishes,” Uncle Chan reflects.

Time To Say Goodbye

But two months ago, Uncle Chan faced a difficult decision. After a decade of operations, he had to close both businesses.

It wasn’t an easy choice.

“Given the economic situation, we struggled with declining student numbers,” he explains.

“Any business needs a certain volume to survive, and as our student count dropped, my wife grew tired of the constant challenges.”

Closing the businesses felt like the right decision for him financially, even though it was a painful one.

Life As A Lalamove Driver

Transitioning from education to logistics was a completely new experience for Uncle Chan.

“In my previous business, I was always stationed at the learning centre. Now, I’m out and about, meeting new people every day,” he says.

His first day as a Lalamove 4x4 Pickup driver was nerve-wracking.

Without prior experience in logistics, he was grateful for the basic training provided by Lalamove at their Driver Centre in Bandar Kinrara.

“The training was helpful, but putting it into practice was a different story.”

His first delivery was a generator, and although he was nervous, he was delighted it went well.

Uncle Chan also appreciates the flexibility Lalamove offers.

He could choose delivery orders that fit his schedule, which is crucial for him as he needed to pick up his kids from school in the afternoon.

At his age, Uncle Chan limits himself to seven orders a day—enough to sustain his livelihood while considering his capabilities.

“I take as many orders as I can handle,” he says.

Happiness As The End Goal

Uncle Chan’s ultimate goal in life is simple: to live happily and harmoniously with his family.

“It’s important for me to find a job that makes me happy, not just financially but also emotionally,” he emphasises.

Lalamove welcomes individuals from all walks of life to join as driver partners.

If you’re looking for a job that offers unmatched flexibility, it’s time to consider Lalamove.
