What’s The Meaning Of Merdeka To Muzaisyam?

If you’ve ever thought that being a Lalamove driver partner is just about delivering things, they’re doing more than that.
Recently, we’ve brought one of our lucky drivers to do…
Batik painting in conjunction with the Merdeka month!
Normuzaisyam Mohamed or Muzaisyam, is a 9-ft Van Lalamove driver and a night market seller.
For this batik painting, we brought Muzaisyam to Jadi Batek, an art studio located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
Batik, Malaysia’s Cultural Heritage
Muzaisyam, who came from Gua Musang, is ain’t just anyone.
Even though it’s his first time doing batik painting, he doesn’t look awkward at all when using the canting tool.
The batik design he picked was also different. Muzaisyam picked the hibiscus pattern, one of Malaysia’s symbols with full of meaning!
During the batik painting session, we also had the chance to have a chat with him.
When we asked about the meaning of independence, his answer was simple but with a deep meaning.
“Live harmoniously in the same country with people from different races,” he said.
As a Malaysian, Muzaisyam is very proud to be born in a country full of blessings.
Malaysia’s batik art that we have now is one of Malaysia’s cultural heritage and we should be proud of it.
According to Muzaisyam, batik is the identity of Malaysia and we must take good care of it forever.
Living In A Multiracial Country
Apart from being a Lalamove driver partner, Muzaisyam is also a night market seller.
With the help of his wife and the eldest child, he managed to sell a variety of shoes and slippers, ranging from small sizes for kids to large sizes for adults.
This business provided him with the opportunity to meet customers from diverse backgrounds and races.
Not just that, he also experienced the same thing as a Lalamove driver partner.
As a Lalamove drive partner, Muzaisyam was able to deal with customers from different states. That’s the most fun part, according to him.
One story that Muzaisyam shared was when he took an order to deliver Black Thorn durians to a Chinese customer from Pulau Pinang.
“I’ve never tasted Black Thorn durian because it’s so expensive, 1kg can cost around RM100.
“But, this kind customer gave me 3kg of Black Thorn durian to bring back to eat with family,” said Muzaisyam.
This is proof that Malaysians live in harmony, regardless of race and religion.
Muzaisyam’s Freedom With Lalamove
Before he tried Lalamove, Muzaisyam was depending 100% on his income from the night market.
However, since COVID-19 hit in 2020, everything has changed for Muzaisyam and his family.
“Nowadays, it’s a bit hard to even get RM400 in a day. Not like before when I could easily get RM1,000,” he added.
Due to that, he decided to join as a Lalamove driver partner.
From there, Muzaisyam slowly paid his debts and was able to increase his daily income to four to five figures a month.
Now Muzaisyam can support his family and has the opportunity to pursue his travelling hobby!
“If I have a job that needs me to go to Johor, I can stop by at the famous Nasi Lemak Lobster. Sometimes, I also bring along my wife, so I can enjoy the work trip,” shared Muzasiyam.
From Pulau Pinang to Terengganu, Muzaisyam has travelled almost the entire Peninsular Malaysia as a Lalamove driver partner.
Having Fun While Working
With Lalamove, Muzaisyam has the freedom to choose the job that he wants to support his family.
Merdeka isn’t just about the flag and the parade. It’s about the opportunity, effort and harmony that unite Malaysians regardless of race and background.
