2019 has been quite a year of growth for Lalamove. From expanding for the first time outside of Asia to cities in Brazil and Mexico, to opening new offices and adding new joiners in record numbers, it’s been an exciting year of progress.
Here are just a few headline figures to demonstrate why we’re stepping into 2020 with a spring in our step.
New markets, new challenges
Entering into new markets comes with its own set of unique challenges. While previous expansion into new cities and countries had so far all taken place in Asia, that was about to change with our first foray into Latin America. São Paulo began operations in August, Rio de Janeiro a couple of months later in October, while Mexico City went online in November.
Setting up new teams on the other side of the world from the international headquarters in Hong Kong was certainly not easy. Besides overcoming different time zones, there were cultural nuances and varying adoption levels of technology to consider for rolling out new products and services. Could the Lalamove services meet the expectations of local markets in Latin America? Was the app interface, messaging and even the colour palette appealing in the right way?
In Brazil, for example, the adoption rates of credit cards and making cashless payments is already well-established. Less consideration was therefore needed to educate local users on these kind of functions. Such concerns and many other factors are rigorously evaluated by the expansion team in conjunction with the local market team to make sure a new market expansion goes smoothly.
After the ongoing expansion into new countries and existing markets, Lalamove is now operating in more than 260 cities globally. And we’ll be expanding into new regions soon, so watch this space!
A milestone in deliveries
2019 also saw Lalamove surpass a significant delivery-related milestone. The total number of deliveries smashed through the 200 million mark earlier this year and continues to grow. This could, of course, not have been achieved without our driver partners, the driving force behind every Lalamove delivery.

Finally, Lalamove’s growth in 2019 could not have been accomplished without our amazing teams around the world.
